As Packers Fans, We Should Say "In Brian Gutekunst and Matt Lafleur We Trust."

As Packers fans, we love the time that Aaron Rodgers has given us. Myself included. You could say that I spent the vast majority of my childhood watching this man dice up defenses and make off-platform throws that would make some of Patrick Mahomes’ attempts seem juvenile in comparison. However, it does not seem as though he is content in finishing his career in Green Bay. He wants to continue to play and the Packers are ready to move on. As a fan of 12, I say thank you. I was blessed to be witness to his final game at Lambeau Field and I will be forever grateful for that. From a Football Perspective, here are my calculations based on what I’ve seen out of our team last year and what it can build into. An era without Rodgers is a questionable one.

However, a small rebuild with a quick turnaround could still be in play here. Last season was rocky from the start to the finish. The reason we lost a lot of those games was from a lack of consistency and chemistry within the wide receiver room, Rodgers missing wide-open throws at times (which could be miscommunications on behalf of the young guys,) injuries and a lack of an aggressive presence on the defensive side of the ball. Play calling was disappointing to say the least for Joe Barry. It's refreshing to hear that LaFleur will be working more with defensive scheming week to week to ensure that the players are put into the right position to win.

Here are some positives moving forward, should we trade Aaron Rodgers:

- Extra draft capital

- Unloading part of Aaron Rodgers' monster contract

- A young, but eager receiver room that now knows the scheme

- Jordan Love, who is chomping at the bit for a chance to prove himself

- A fiery defensive unit that can be Top 10 if play calling is fixed

I am a firm believer that Rodgers is worth a first at the bare minimum. However, given his age and flaky attitude towards playing past this year, I do not blame the Jets for taking their time with this. They will give us our due, but it may not what we expect. But, rest assured Packers fans, I believe Brian Gutekunst will hold until we get our fair compensation.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Brian Gutekunst at first, questioning his inability to bolster up a tight end and wide receiver room and focusing solely on defense within the top rounds of the draft. He also has shown less urgency in free agency, which cautions me. But, within these flaws, he obviously has a vision for the future. It started with the controversial Love pick. Will it work out? We will see in due time. But, his aggressive approach to special teams is very exciting. With Rich Bisaccia adding Assistant Head Coach to his already Special Teams Coach title, the Packers have also brought back Keisean Nixon and Dillon Leavitt. Those are two integral parts of the special teams unit that we may see take an even bigger jump this year. With Mason Crosby most likely leaving as well, we should address the kicker position, possibly in the draft. If I were Packers GM, I would address these positions of need in the draft first (Which will be much easier to do when we have more capital from an Aaron Rodgers trade.) TE, S, WR, OL, K, QB. If we can address the issues we have here, things will look promising going forward. These should be high priority, and finding depth at other positions is always welcome. I would also like to see a push for a player like Deandre Hopkins if possible.

If Jordan Love is our team’s future, and I am hoping he is, we will see glimpses of greatness this year in his first year as a full-time starter. As Packers fans we should say that “In Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur We Trust.” Go Pack Go.

"Flaws"?? Understatement of the century. Gute spent $$ in free agency that helped GB go 13-3 in 2019, then threw it all down the toilet wasting a 1st and 4th round pick for a 21 year old kid who wasn't going to see the field for 4 years. He slammed closed the wide open window of success that the Packers should have experience. No, in Gute I will never trust.
