By definition, a Fan Cave is a room dedicated to enjoying your favorite pastime. The #1 location for a Fan Cave is the basement, followed by the garage, spare bedroom, and an attic. The Fan Cave has probably been around for hundreds of years but the first narrated tour of a Fan Cave that I could find was in the 1940’s featuring a science fiction collection. In 2021 “The Gazette '' published the top 10 NFL Fan Caves in response to the Covid pandemic which caused an upsurge in people creating more Fan Caves. Whether you are just starting to think about creating one of your own, or you have only a few items in your Fan Cave, or perhaps your Fan Cave is more of a memorabilia collection, we all have our favorite items in this designated space. These are my 10 favorite items (no particular order) in my Packer Fan Cave:

1. Aaron Rodgers Signed Super Bowl Football Helmet:

Most people have a bucket list and one of mine was to attend a Packers Super Bowl. During that magical run in 2010 I had a feeling that if the Packers could get in the playoffs they were a team that could win it all. I was able to convince my wife to go with me to Dallas and despite an ice storm we were able to witness the Packers winning a championship as they defeated the Steelers 31-25. Aaron Rodgers was amazing and could have been better if not for many drops, but still won the Super Bowl MVP as deserved. I was able to get a signed Rodger’s helmet from that Super Bowl season.

2.1996 Super Bowl Season Team Signed Helmet:

This helmet is number 34 of 131 signed by the likes of Favre, Freeman, Wolf, Mathews and Driver to name just a few of the signatures on this helmet. I love this helmet because while at the Super Bowl in Dallas, I was able to meet and get some autographs from Dorsey Levens, William Henderson, and Edgar Bennet who were all part of the 1996Super Bowl team. This was one of my favorite teams as they delivered us from the abyss of the 70’s and 80’s.

3. Signed “Lombardi and Me" Book:

Suffering throughout my youth of being a Packer fan in the 1970’s and 1980’s, our only saving grace was looking backwards to the Lombardi yearsMy father and grandfather would tell stories about those years and I vividly remember watching old NFL films of that era. Whenever we made the trip to Lambeau we would always hope to see some of the players from the 60’s. My dream finally came true in the 2000’s when I was able to meet the “Golden Boy” and get Paul Hornung to sign my book and take a quick picture with me.

4. Sterling Sharpe:

While I was always a fan of the Packers my obsession became cemented in the early 90’s. Sharpe was that one player for the Packers that always dominated the competition. Sterling Sharpe is a player that non-Packer fans forget because injuries cut his career short. We are talking about a player that was as good as if not better than Jerry Rice in his heyday. What is more amazing is he had no supporting cast and no hall of fame quarterbacks until Favre arrived. Let's look at his stats before he got injured: 595 career receptions, 8,134 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 5 pro bowls in the Jerry Rice Era while playing only 7 years due to injury.

5. Cliff Christl's “The Greatest Story in Sports:”

This four volume set about the history of the Packers is a must read for Packer fans. A fun story about the book was when I told my daughter Izzy that she must memorize it in order to attend the shareholder meeting and be able to answer questions from fans. As a history teacher, and a fan of the four volume set, the book is the bible for Packer fans. This is a must read and will give you a ton of ideas for items to include in your Fan Cave. Read the history folks!

6. The Famous Photo at the Packer Pro Shop:

You have all seen the coolest photo in the pro shop that features Starr, Favre, and Rodgers. I have print number 8845 with no signatures and there might be a million printed but something about that photo connects my entire Packer fandom into 1 picture-Love it.

7. Family Lambeau Brick:

The Family brick, which you could purchase to help renovate Lambeau stadium reads: “Lamphier Family 2003:Trent & Lesley-Kaitlyn, Treyton & Audrey-Robert Lamphier-Thomas Lamphier” and marks the dedication of my families love for the Packers. Even though the family has grown we still pay homage to the brick and to Lamphiers that have passed away when we go to Green Bay. Each visit to Lambeau we always find the brick which helps connect us to the stadium.

8. Dads Signed Fuzzy Thurston Hat:

I grew up in poverty and separated from my dad but one of my favorite memories was when my dad and I reunited and attended our first Packer game together. We partied a little too much and ended up at a bar where my dad, who was very outgoing, met up with the lombardi legends. He ended up hanging out with Fuzzy and getting him to sign his hat. Even after 10 years of my pops passing that hat hangs in my garage to this day.

9. Packer Stock:

Every Packer fan that has a fan cave will probably have a framed Packer stock showing their ownership. What I cherish is that I have also purchased stock for each of my five children. Hopefully it will one day be the centerpiece for their own fan cave.

10. Photo of 4 Generations of Lamphier Men:

No Fan Cave can be complete without some items that are valuable and personal to only the owner. For me it is the picture I have of the four generations of Lamphier packer fans. Starting with Grandpa Lamphier, who tried out for the Packers, to my dad, myself, and my firstborn son. This is one of the only pictures I have of all four of us and I love that my son and grandpa are sporting their packer gear.
