Below you will see all the notes and tidbits from those who were actually in attendance for the Packers first OTA practice yesterday in Green Bay. The updates start from the beginning of practice and so on.
Ryan Wood - OLB Rashan Gary and CB Eric Stokes are not practicing, but both present in their jerseys for OTAs. Stokes is mimicking footwork drills while rest of defense is in walkthrough.
Andy Herman - Absences going to play a part here. But some quick OTA lineup stuff:
Offensive line: Yosh - Royce - Myers - JRJ - Tom
CBs: Balentine, K. Thomas, Nixon S: Ford/Savage
WR: Jayden Reed getting reps w “1s” in the slot right away
T. Carpenter at LB w the 2s
Clark/Wyatt working together inside.
Ryan Wood - Rookie Jayden Reed gets the first punt return rep. He’s joined by Keisean Nixon and Romeo Doubs.
Andy Herman - Innis Gaines and Rudy Ford working as Jammers on pr team. Nixon/Reed/Doubs working as PRs Jugs machine looks FANTASTIC. Just nuking perfect spiral after perfect spiral.
Matt Schneidman - Packers veterans who I don’t spot at the first open practice of voluntary OTAs:
Dallin Leavitt
Jaire Alexander
Rasul Douglas
Jonathan Garvin
David Bakhtiari
Elgton Jenkins
Preston Smith
Andy Herman - Grant Dubose off to the side not working.
Matt Schneidman - We’re not allowed to film rehabbing players, but Rashan Gary and Eric Stokes are getting after it outside with trainers. Both suffered season-ending injuries in Detroit Week 9 last season.
Ryan Wood - Sean Rhyan, the third-round pick last season, isn’t just getting a smattering of center reps. More of a test drive. He’s working in there quite a bit in individual drills.
Rob Demovsky - The Packers’ No. 1 offensive line:
LT: Yosh Nijman
LG: Royce Newman
C: Josh Myers
RG: Jon Runyan
RT: Zach Tom
Ryan Wood - Kenny Clark just blew up a run play to AJ Dillon in the backfield. Rashan Gary, very present even as he recovers from torn ACL, was the loudest voice celebrating from the sideline.
Andy Herman - Defense wins the first three team drills. run stuff, tipped pass, then Clark/Enagbare blew up a run. Then Nixon bats down the next pass on a bootleg. False start JRJ.
Andy Herman - Nice little run by new RB Emmanuel Wilson. Cut it back outside. Brenton Cox lost contain on the play. Lukas Van Ness practice both standing up and with his hand in the ground in his first team drills. AJ Dillon looked spry with a little wiggle in the backfield.
Andy Herman - Jayden Reed with a nice release & catch over the middle, made a move & looked awesome - then he forgot the ball & fumbled clean. Defense picks up the fumble. Interesting coaching point from MLF - if there’s a fumble in practice he doesn’t want his offensive players going after it.
Andy Herman - Keisean Nixon with gorgeous coverage on Watson down the sideline. Watson tried to go over him - didn’t work. Incomplete. Nixon gets praise from the sideline. Love with a gorgeous throw to the corner of the end zone to Dillon out of the backfield but… dropped. Off the hands.
Matt Schneidman - Dart alert. Jordan Love to Christian Watson for a 10-yard TD over the middle in the back of the end zone. Keisean Nixon in coverage.
Matt Schneidman - T.J. Slaton with one of the most emphatic swats of a pass at the line I’ve seen in some time. Love responds with another bullet to Toure for a TD.
Rob Demovsky - After a slow start, Jordan Love was effective in the short red zone (from the 10 and in) with 3 TDs. Overall in the first open OTA (and second of the week), he was 6-for-16. Had three tipped or batted down, one dropped and one nearly picked off.
Ryan Wood - Matt LaFleur on Jordan Love: “I think there’s a lot of good things, and things we have to clean up.” Packers focused on red zone today. He says that’s a harder day for the offense, which showed at times in this practice.
Rob Demovsky - CB Eric Stokes said he had surgery on his knee and foot — they were done at the same time — after his November injury. He had a lisfranc injury and had a plate inserted in his foot. He said he finally started running a couple weeks ago and believes he’ll get his speed back.
Matt Schneidman - Packers First Team All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon used the word "irrelevant" multiple times today when discussing the new rule that gives a team the ball at the 25 if they fair catch a kickoff outside the end zone. "I ain't never fair caught anything."
